HOW TO MAKE FROZEN COCKTAILS IN A ZIP-LOCK BAG
When summer's doing that dog-days thing, quench your thirst for kitsch with a frozen, fruity cocktail made in a zip-lock bag. Yes…. A zip-lock bag. No fancy equipment here.
And all you need is for this is a regular zip-lock bag. Make individual drinks if you have smaller bags, or batch up for the larger bag for serving at a “party”.
Use ingredients of your choice.
METHOD:
There really is no hard work here. Just combine ingredients for the cocktail recipe of your choice, then toss the bag in the freezer. The next day, massage the bag to soften and break up the mixture. Tip into a glass and you are done.
Then! A frozen drink without garnish is delicious. But if you happen to have glitzy cocktail picks, fresh fruit garnish, pineapple leaves, flamingo stemware or paper umbrellas on hand, now's their time to shine.
Sugar and alcohol both inhibit freezing, so it might take longer thank you think for these mixes to firm up. We suggest freezing overnight.
They may be slow to freeze, but they melt fast, especially in the heat of the day. Slow this down by chilling the glasses; or serve in double-wall stemless wine glasses.
Making slushies in plastic bags isn't exactly eco-friendly. Check your guilt by washing and reusing the bags for many more rounds. And skip the plastic straws. The ocean creatures thank you.
All I can say is that Slush Puppies never tasted so good ;-)
